EFL TEXTBOOK EVALUATION FROM EFL LEARNERS’ PERSPECTIVES
Abstract
The present study was set out to compare the evaluation of Iranian EFL students regarding two sets of textbooks, namely Interchange Series and the Iranian Pre-university English textbook. To this end, 60 Iranian EFL students were randomly recruited from Iranian high schools and English institutes. A modified and translated version of the questionnaire developed by Alamri (2008) was employed for this study. The questionnaire evaluated the following categories; General Appearance, Design and illustration, Accompanying Materials, Topic Contents, Social and Cultural Contexts, Practice and Testing. Based on the finding of this study, on the whole, there was a significant difference between the perceptions of the students towards the above-mentioned textbooks. In other words, students had a more positive perception toward the Interchange Series. In particular, in all above-mentioned categories except General Appearance and Social and Cultural Contexts the difference was statistically significant.
